QR Scanner privacy policy

Last updated: October 8, 2026

QR Scanner processes camera frames and images you select or drop into the app on your device to read codes. It does not upload or save imported images. It does not upload or save camera images. Scan History stays on your device and may be included in your normal device backup. You can delete individual scans or clear History in the app. History saves the complete original data from every scanned code, including boarding passes, Wi-Fi passwords, authentication codes, private keys, and links with credentials. You can view, copy, or share the full data, delete a scan by swiping, or clear History. Data omitted by older versions cannot be recovered.

If you enable Save scan location in History settings, the app requests location access while in use. Live scans can save coordinates and a place name in your local History. Location is off by default, is never tracked continuously or in the background, and is not added to imported photos. Apple’s geocoding service may receive coordinates to find a place name. Turning this setting off stops future location requests; existing locations remain until you delete those scans or clear History.

If you choose Look Up Product, the app sends the barcode number to the Open Food Facts service. That request also exposes the network information normally sent with an internet request, such as your IP address. Open Food Facts provides the product data and handles the request under its privacy policy. The app does not send images or your scan History to that service.

Opening a link or using a share action sends information to the destination you choose. Those destinations have their own privacy practices.

QR Scanner does not require an account and does not include advertising, analytics, or tracking. We do not run a server that receives your scans. To ask about this policy or the app, email help@marginally-better.app.
